Bulbbul Review- A mystic Tale
The movie will take you back to the 18th century of Bengal. It all starts with a sweet little girl who gets hitched to a man double her age. Back then this was unexceptional, the bygone Zamindars use to marry young girls who were just the age of their daughter and Bulbbul was one such lament child. At her playful age, she was already the better half of Indranil, the powerful zamindar, unaware of the facts of marriage and most importantly unknown about her husband. Naive Bulbbul thought her marriage to be a part of her doll play and assumed her brother in law Satya to be her groom.
While she was on her way to zamindar’s place in a palki accompanied by Satya (brother-in-law) and Binodini (sister-in-law), Satya came to console his scared innocent bhabi (sister-in-law) by telling her a tale of a bloodthirsty witch. He outlined the witch as a demonic beauty who linger on the tall trees with long curly hair and ulti paer (feet turned backward) in hunt of blood. The childlike friendship between Bulbbul and Satya all started with this tale. With their budding years together, they continued with the chapters of the demonic tale oblivious of their growing fondness to each other. Gradually Satya became the reason for Bulbbul‘s happiness, smile, contentment. Her entire world was all around Satya. Though her feelings towards her brother-in-law were undefined, all she knew was Satya is the only escape door to her fairytale land where she had a perfect groom for her lovely doll and the world was so easy and happy there. With her growing affection towards Satya, Indranil thought of parting their ways by sending her brother to study abroad.
Years later Satya returned back, Bulbbul was all grown up and matured Thakurain. With his return to the Haveli, the story of the demon witch revived. There were cycles of events grasping the village and the Haveli , which was blamed upon the mythical witch. The story keeps you intrigued even though you foresee the verge. The movie is not blood wrenched scary but will surely chill your veins with the mystic ambiance that has so much more to reveal than what you have. The terrific screenplay and editing adding the gothic feel to the mysterious tale are worth the praise. The red mist all around, forewarning the advent of the demonic evil will surely grasp you in her spell.
Performance in Bulbbul:
Avinash Tiwari as Satya, Rahul Bose as Indranil, Parambrata Chatterjee as Dr. Sudip, Paoli Dam as Binodini were all tremendous in their part and performances worth all the applauds. Tripti Dimri’s being the central character and her performance as Bulbbul was breathtaking. Dimri’s portrayal of the transforming character of Bulbbul from a shy, timid, gentle childlike girl to an impressive, dominant, wary, and mysterious Thakurain is spectacular. We surely have high hopes for her.
