Thousands of residents have fled the Spanish island of La Palma because of an enormous volcanic eruption. The lava is wreaking devastation on the island.

Houses and other property have been destroyed by the raging volcano since Sunday. After the magnitude 4.1 earthquake hit, a new fissure opened up.

 Massive rescue efforts are underway, with the help of the Spanish military. If the lava reaches the sea, there’s a good chance it’ll erupt and spew deadly gas. After a 50-year hiatus, a volcanic eruption has occurred on the island of La Palma.

The lava flowed and erupted red flames hundreds of meters away. The lava eruption had turned the whole sky into the scorching red fire.

The lava flooded with specks and fumes. In this order, the Spanish authorities were immediately alerted and engaged in relief operations. The Meteorological Department shared videos of the incident on Twitter.

Also, many who have seen the scenery are sharing videos sharing their experiences. The videos are currently going viral on social media.

“5,000 people have been evacuated and 100 homes have been burned as of right now,” said Lorena Hernandez Labrador, a councilman in the nearby municipality of Los Llanos de Ariadne.

“The lava tongue is swallowing everything in its path. “Tragic to watch how many homes have suddenly burned down in smoke.”

A local school that had 25 students enrolled was also consumed by the fire.

About two hours ago, we had high hopes for its survival. Now we must accept its end. The headmistress of the school spoke to the news channels and her voice broke as she declared, “It’s totally destroyed.”

Thousands of people were forced to flee their homes, many of them were distraught and feared they would have nothing to return to when they returned.

“For now, we’re watching the news while standing 700 meters away from our house, and I’m afraid about what’s going to happen to it,” said Angie Chaux, 27, who was evacuated from the place with her husband and three-year-old son, AFP reported.

Around 80,000 people live in La Palma, where La Cumbre Vieja is situated on a ridge.

After noticing an increase in seismic activity and magma displacements, experts began paying particular attention to the volcano’s activity.
