Coronavirus was first identified in Wuhan, a city in Hubei province of china in December 2019 since then the virus has taken over the world with its global pandemic. Forcing the whole world to go into inevitable lockdown.
As of today, there are 88 million active cases in the world with 1.9 million reported deaths with cases adding every day and the constant mutation of virus whole world is persistently looking for the cure.
Although the first case of covid-19 was reported in January 2020 it was suspected that the coronavirus entered India in mid-November 2019. Currently, India harbors 10.4 million active cases, 1,51,000 reported deaths, and 84 cases of the new UK variant. Developing countries like India had a lot of challenges due to the heavy population, poverty, and an unstable economy. The effect of the pandemic on people’s lives was devastating.
When the world was breathing the air of relief due to the depleting case of the virus came a new variant from the UK stronger than the original coronavirus born in China.
The Race to Find a Cure
Drug making companies from all around the world and world-renowned research institutes like Bharat Biotech, AstraZeneca, serum institute of India, and Oxford have all been in the race for COVID-19 Vaccine for a long period now.
Although Russia claimed to have created the “Sputnik V” vaccine which had 90% more efficiency than the Pfizer and BioNTech’s COVID-19 Vaccine, due to various side effects the Russian vaccine was not promising hence was put back.
India’s Vaccination Drive
In India Bharat Biotech started its “covaxin” trail in December 2020while theserum institute began the clinical trials of the oxford vaccine around august in the country.
With growing hope for a vaccine, every day; the Drug Control General of India (DCGI) finally made an announcement on 3rdJanuary 2021 about the approval of two coronavirus vaccine India that are Bharat Biotech’s covaxin and serum institute of India’s coviShield for restricted use in the country.
Both covaxin and covishield are two-dose COVID-19 vacancies having secured efficiency data of 70% and 90% precisely.
India is running a second dry run of the coronavirus vaccine today.
The first country-wide run which was held on January 2nd covered 74 districts with all the frontline workers and accompanied by 50 years old being vaccinated so far. subsequently, the second run is said to be the biggest covering 737 districts in the country today.
Despite all the criticism and backlashes both the institutes and the government are successfully carrying out the vaccination drive within the country.
Corona vaccine registration
The National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for covid-19 (NEGVAC) declared to only vaccinate for a specific population that is the front-line workers and people who are aged 50 and above announced a digital platform the CoWIN app which is in the initial stage of development contains details of all the health care and frontline workers who are to be vaccinated first.
The application already holds over.75 lakhs pre-registered healthcare officials.
At the moment this platform is not available but once live people can register for the vaccine by providing necessary documents- photo, PAN card, Aadhar card, and others. Although the price for the corona vaccine for the general public is yet to be declared.

So, all people have to do now is follow the covid guidelines and wait until it’s their turn to get vaccinated.
