Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus To Continue As WHO Chief

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has been unanimously re-elected Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The WHO has revealed that he will continue in this position for another five years. France and Germany backed Tedros’ candidacy after the nominations expired. Tedros of Ethiopia was the first African to head the WHO. 

Tedros Adhanom was elected in 2016 as the director of WHO and has been a prominent figure of the World Health Organization since then.

The world became well acquainted with Adhanom during the covid-19 period as he stood as the face of WHO. Many European countries as well as countries like Indonesia, Tonga, Kenya, and others have backed Tedros to continue as the chief of WHO.

Last year during the covid-19 period the former United States President Donald Trump accused Tedros has the Bejing puppet stating the WHO chief was covering up China’s tracks and almost pulled out the U.S from the WHO but Joe Biden put a stop to it after he took over as the POTUS.

 Tedros stated in his statement that the world has been wrecked by the covid-19 pandemic and he wants to prepare the world for the next such thing and earlier this year he also urged China to be transparent and not clear the ground for the WHO team to investigate and find the truth.

Adhanom also has been condemning the improper distribution of vaccines and is urging the countries for equal distribution of the vaccine.

Besides he also faced criticism after the rape and sexual harassment of the WHO workers came to light which was proved to be true after an investigation.

He stated that under his leadership, the WHO “has withstood the greatest test of a century to steer the world through an unprecedented health crisis.”

“Our job is not yet done,” he said emphatically. COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on the world, leaving much to be rebuilt. It has also drawn attention to WHO’s numerous needs.”

Member states will formally vote for the next WHO chief in a secret ballot in May during the 75th World Health Assembly,
