In the last few days, there has been speculation that the BJP is going to change the Maharashtra State BJP president. With this, many hopefuls who were hoping for the post started making lobbying at the Delhi level. On the other hand, Chandrakant Patil, who is currently in office, is also trying to retain the presidency. If the high command decides to change the president, there will be a debate within the party as to who will hold the post. It is known that then Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for giving priority to young leaders in the party. With this, young BJP leaders Ashish Shelar and Chandrasekhar Bawankule are pinning their hopes on the BJP state presidency post. That is why there is a lot of lobbying at the Delhi level.
According to the rules and regulations framed by the BJP, the term of office of the Maharashtra State BJP President is up to three years. Chandrakant Patil took over as BJP Pradesh president in July 2019. According to the rules, his term of office will be till July 2022. But in the last few days, there has been speculation that he will be replaced a year ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections in February next year. Moreover, the frequent visits of several senior BJP leaders from across the state to Delhi have cast doubt on whether those speculations may be true. Meanwhile, former chief minister and opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis also visited Delhi last month. There he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah. BJP’s current president Chandrakant Patil also recently visited Delhi. After that, Ashish Shelar and Chandrasekhar Bavankule also visited Delhi and went back.
Over the last few days, speculations that the president of the region may change may have been further strengthened by the fact that one after the other is moving to the national capital. However, Devendra Fadnavis has already made it clear that the party will abide by the rules and regulations, according to which Chandrakant Patil will continue in office for three years. Patil said there was no point in changing the middle. He urged the media not to assume that changes would take place in the party as long as they were in Delhi and not spread rumors unnecessarily. Fadnavis clarified that there was no discussion on the issue of changing the president of the Maharashtra BJP. He said Patil’s leadership was unnecessary for the Maharashtra BJP and that the party would not be purged as long as media rumors were raised. He made it clear that no changes would take place in the party unless the BJP central leadership in Delhi takes a decision. Policy council elections were held during the reign of Chandrakant Patil. The BJP got good results in that election. Fadnavis made it clear that he had no plans to replace him and would continue to do so entirely during his tenure.
So we have to wait few more days to get a clarification on this issue till that time. These are considered as just speculations and rumors
