The Pakistani government has expressed grave concern over reports that the Indian government is using Israeli spyware Pegasus to spy on the opposite party politicians, journalists, activists, and other public figures’ phones.
The names of several foreign dignitaries, including the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, are reportedly on the list. The United Nations has called for immediate intervention and a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
The Pakistan Foreign Office issued a statement to this effect on Friday. According to international media reports, the Indian government is spying on its own citizens as well as foreigners. It is a matter of grave concern that their Prime Minister Imran Khan is also on the list of those being monitored by the Indian government.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has said that India should act as a responsible country and adhere to international norms in this regard.
The Israeli government is on high alert. It has set up a committee to ascertain the truth behind allegations of misuse of surveillance software. The Israeli government has signaled that it will hand over the task of reviewing the entire Pegasus spyware licensing process to this committee.

Government sources said further action would be taken based on the committee’s report. Shalev Hulio, NSO chief executive, welcomed the government’s decision to set up the committee.
Amid intense controversy over Israeli intelligence software Pegasus, the NSO Group has defended itself, saying it has nothing to do with the controversy.
NSO responded to the Pegasus tapping scandal claiming NSO has nothing to do with the list of phone numbers and the leaked data. It said it was not using any technology similar to the original snooping and that its clients had no access to the phones’ data.
