Israel is facing backlash from the strong powers all around the world for letting a domestic company, The NSO Group to develop spyware, Pegasus, and letting them spy on others. The NSO Group has denied the allegations and has said they were hacked; it’s nothing of companies doing. They have declared they are open to any investigation.
The Israeli Defence Ministry has launched an investigation into allegations leveled against the NSO group in the Pegasus snooping scam. The company sells Pegasus spyware to governments. Many countries around the world have been accused of using spyware to spy on rivals and journalists.
India is its prominent user and is being accused of wrongdoings by spying on prominent personalities. In the wake of this, the Israeli Ministry of Defense revealed that the investigating officers had recently conducted inspections at the NSO Group office.
The Defense Ministry clarified that the information gathered and discovered during the inspections could not be disclosed any time soon.
Local media reported that officials from the Israeli Defense Ministry as well as the National Security Council were involved in the inspections.
Is the NSO Group operating in accordance with the permits issued by the Department of Defense Export Control Division? Or violating the rules? It will only be known when the Israel Government reveals it.
A spokesman for the NSO Group said it was true that defense officials had come to their office. He said the company has fully co-operated and will co-operate with the investigating officers. They stated that they were working with full transparency in accordance with government regulations.
The company has temporarily blocked five government agencies among its 60 customers in 40 countries and has launched an internal investigation team to find out about the misuse of the spyware.
