Indian Multiplexes record sharp recovery after spiderman no way home release. with a strong call to action – “Friendly Neighbourhood” the people, in general, have responded to it by attending in numbers to shows in theatres and multiplexes throughout.
After a close look at the tag line, we get to know that if spiderman knows that someone is in danger, regardless of his side… spiderman will be there to save the day without any delay. Adhering to the tagline spiderman has saved the day for stressed multiplexes.
Since corona had declined the ticket sales from the very beginning of the pandemic, spiderman has definitely proved to be a superhero who has now defended the Indian multiplex box office.
With the multiplex box office numbers rising up with promising numbers at the end of 2021. A blockbuster Hollywood and Tollywood movie gave the necessary boost to the multiplex theatres.

Recent numbers of attendees in the multiplexes even after the pandemic crisis have reinstated the belief in the word ‘cinema’. A 100 percent ticket in pre-booking before release guarantees a bright future for the multiplex industry.
Many stakeholders of the multiplex industry are pleased to see the Housefull boards even before the release is a positive indication about the public sentiment on theatres in general. Adding to a series of good news, some of the movie ticket booking sites reported a crash time for a short period due to large website visitor inflow.
Before the launch of the two blockbuster movies there was a lot of speculation and doubt over the future and business numbers of the multiplexes. But with such over-the-top sales numbers, all such speculations have ceased to exist.
Despite being a Hollywood movie, Spiderman No Way Home has got a flying start pan-India with great opening ticket sales in multiplexes across all tiers of cities and towns.
Now the Revenue Numbers
Generally, Multiplexes receive their revenue from three sources that are: Ticket Sales (Average Ticket Price, ATP), Per capita cost, which is the revenue earned from per person who comes to the theatre to watch a movie (Spend per head, SPH), and finally the Ad Revenue.
All three revenues had significantly dropped over the past year on the account of the covid-19 pandemic. With instances like some revenue sources reaching absolute zero. Theatres were re-opened in September 2021 but the masses were not much interested in visiting the theatres immediately after reopening of the theatres thereby fueling more speculations and doubts on the future of the multiplex industry.
But from October, the condition slightly improved reaching 18 percent of the total occupancy. After which November reported 27 percent occupancy. With current occupancy reaching the 100 percent mark in pre-release booking in some cases. Thereby indicating a healthy recovery and promising future of the multiplex industry.
