Recently the Meta Investigations have revealed sensational issues about a China Operation in Surveillance. In this Meta Investigation, many Surveillance companies have been revealed that work for governments.
Meta (formerly Facebook) recently uncovered a large number of such malicious surveillance companies. During its Investigation the Meta company has collected data about fake personal information from thousands of Facebook accounts, groups, and phones.
Thereby exposing sensitive portfolios of companies that cater to their confidential clients. In a series of strict actions from Facebook, It has banned all such fake accounts related to this malicious scam.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook with a prompt display of strong action, completely banned a record number of 1500 accounts that exclusively belong to the said surveillance companies which are involved in this scam.
After a detailed study, all the banned companies belonged to a group of cyber mercenary companies. The Meta Investigations revealed that these fraudulent surveillance accounts worked on behalf of their clients that performed unauthorised surveillance on activists, prominent journalists, columnists, and dissidents.
Taking a further course of action Meta aims to alert more than fifty thousand users in over a hundred countries in this matter of fraudulent surveillance carried out by such malicious surveillance companies.

The Chinese Angle
Perhaps the most important or crucial revelation from the Meta revelation is the secretive Chinese operation. But even after a detailed investigation, Meta couldn’t identify the name of the operation or who was behind running it.
However, Chinese authorities have claimed to meta-trace the ‘command and control system of servers and surveillance equipment that may have been used for the surveillance scam.
As per Meta, the said surveillance scam is being carried out by smartphones that belong to some Chinese smartphone brands.
As per the investigation, these Chinese smartphones were responsible for collecting Facebook as well as other data and finally delivering it to their clients. Further, in the investigation, it was found that most of the participating companies in this scam are Israeli surveillance companies.
After such sensational revelations by Meta, it is very evident that data privacy is still to be made more secure and private. With such prompt measures from Meta, it can be predicted that such scams will be identified and stopped at their very beginning
