Malware attacks on mobile phones have increased in India, according to cybersecurity firm Checkpoint Technologies.
The agency said that between October 2020 and March 2021, there was a nine-fold increase in malware attacks.
There were 1,345 attacks in October 2020 and 12,719 malware attacks in March 2021.
To this end, the 2021 Mobile Security Report has been released. 97% of companies face mobile threats in 2020.
Internationally, at least 46% of companies report that at least one employee has downloaded a malicious mobile application.
Hackers have created a device network that tricks users to instal malware payloads through infected Websites or URLs, or stealing user credentials, which is responsible for 93 percent of these attacks.
If you’re not frightened enough by these figures, there is more. In 2020, Check Point also observed a 15% rise in bank business operations in Trojan, which could rob users’ mobile banking credentials.

2020 was the year offices shifted to home, people were very active online, whether it was office work, or streaming services, or bank transactions, paying bills, etc, a lot of transactions were being done online, hackers saw the possibility of theft here.
Malicious hackers have spread mobile malware, like MRATs, bank trojans, and others, sometimes concealing malware in apps claiming to give COVID-19 details.
People were very frenzied about covid-19 and were downloading applications to stay updated and safe, hackers saw this as their opening to hide malware in such applications.
In the same year, CheckPoint also identified a significant new threat, in which the hackers used the Mobil Device Management (MDM) system, a major international company, to spread malware to over 75 percent of their controlled mobile devices – using the solution to monitor the mobile usage within the company.
