Lockdown until 14th January over Omicron Scare

With 14,742 fresh Omicron cases registered in just two days, the Netherlands announces lockdown until 14th January. The Dutch government in an attempt to curb the further spread of the covid new variant omicron imposed a lockdown on Saturday. 

In an urgent press conference conducted in Hague Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced the lockdown which was imminent and unavoidable in recent circumstances. With the announcement of this decision, the Netherlands will in total move into another lockdown.

The Netherlands announces lockdown until January 14th

Omicron is spreading at a rapid pace, faster than expected. This is why this lockdown is mandatory and the need of the hour. The new lockdown will be in effect from Sunday 5 p.m. The said lockdown will have strict regulations and will be in effect until January 14th, 2022.

During his address, Prime Minister Mark Rutte said that this Lockdown is inevitable since the fifth wave has already arrived and gained rapid momentum. Now going inside the details of the imposed lockdown, Except for other important essential shops such as supermarkets & medical professions.

All other shops including all educational institutions, catering industry, restaurants, museums, theatres, and zoos will remain closed until January 14, 2022. As many as nearly 14,742 omicron cases were detected and reported in the entire week. 

The Netherlands announces lockdown until January 14th

Government officials of the Netherlands warned that the covid omicron variant transmission will accelerate further after Christmas. It was known that some major sanctions were imposed on December 14 in the Netherlands. 

Currently, the Netherlands announced that they are extending the said sanctions. It has been already ordered to the schools to declare holidays a week before Christmas eve and holidays.

However, the Dutch government feels that the present sanctions were not enough to prevent the rapid and wild spread of the Omicron variant.
