The Russian government has banned the photo and video sharing platform Instagram. With this, the Russians became distant from Instagram. Before the ban, few Russian users and bloggers expressed their grief over getting away from Instagram on the same platform.
In this Russian-Ukraine war, new developments are taking place every day. Instead, other countries and large corporations are imposing sanctions on Russia, Russia is taking action against some companies. Large corporations, including Western nations, have imposed sanctions on Russia over its attacks on Ukraine. On the other hand, it is taking actions against companies, particularly those who are against them. Thus, the Russian government has imposed a ban on Instagram in the country. It came into implementation on Monday (March 14).

Why Russia banned Instagram?
Russia took this action because the Instagram parent company Meta allowed posts that could incite attacks on Russians. It also accused that Meta is not controlling the offensive posts made on Russian President Putin. Also, the action was not taken, on the posts which are supposed to attack the Russian soldiers. That is why Russia has banned Instagram in the country. Russia has also recently shut down Facebook, a popular social media platform, within the Meta.
Adam Mosseri, the company’s CEO, also tweeted two days before the ban that Instagram will be closed down in Russia. He also tweeted that this is incorrect because eight crore Russians will lose Instagram services, and also, eighty percent of Russians follow Instagram accounts from other countries.
Russian users and bloggers who came to know about the ban of Instagram before two days scrolled through the posts, and remembered all their memories. Many bloggers and users had expressed their concern and said goodbye to Instagram in the form of stories and posts.
On the other side, the Instagram ban caused trouble for small businesses in Russia as smaller companies advertise through Instagram, and their users were connected through this platform.
