Google fined €220 million in France for advertising abuse

Tech giant Google has been accused of abusing its dominance in online advertising. France fined ‌ 220 million ($ 268 million).

The Competition Authority, a French monopoly regulator, has confirmed that the company has adopted policies that hurt competitors. The Competition Authority said that if Google changes its policies in the wake of the imposition of the fine, all competitors will have equal opportunities.

The EU competition authorities punished the corporation for using its popular Android mobile operating system to prevent competition by recording €4.34 billion, or £3.9 billion, in 2018.

In 2017, this resulted in a €2,42 billion fine for preventing shopping comparison rivals from using websites.

Google was also fined £91 million for ad-tracking cookies.

Again in, December last year, the Privacy Watchdog of France punished Google and Amazon for putting advertising cookies on computers of users without authorization to a total of EUR 135 million.
