Coronavirus second wave deadlier than ever before

The coronavirus is spreading like a wildfire in the second phase in the country. As a result, tough regulations are already being adopted in many states and most of these states are going into lockdowns to slow the pace of spreading virus.

India has failed to control the second wave and as a result, the coronavirus is breaking loose like hell, more than 2 lakh positive cases were recorded in a single day.

A record number of cases and deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours. A total of 2,61,500 cases were reported in a single day across the country and the death toll has been reaching higher and higher every day with 1,501 died to the virus yesterday alone. This brings the total number of cases to 1,47,88,109 and the number of deaths to 1,77,150.

 At present, the number of active cases has reached 18,01,316 accounting for 12.18 percent of the total cases. The recovery rate has fallen to 86.62 percent, the mortality rate is 1.20 percent and 1,28,09,643 cases have recovered so far.

According to the Medical Research Council of India (ICMR), 26,65,38,416 samples were tested across the country as of April 17 as part of the coronavirus diagnostic tests. 15,66,394 samples were tested in a single day on Saturday.

The coronavirus has killed 1,77,150 people in the country, of which 59,970 died in Maharashtra, 13,270 in Karnataka, 13,071 in Delhi, 10,540 in West Bengal, 9,703 in Uttar Pradesh, and 7,834 in Punjab.

According to the Union Ministry of Health, 70 percent of coronavirus deaths in India are due to other health problems. 

The daily positivity rate was 8 percent. In 12 days, it reached 16.69 percent. In the span of 12 days the cases have doubled rapidly. It means that 17 percent of every 100 tests are coming out positive.

The weekly positive rate rose to 13.54 percent during the month from 3.05 percent. The highest weekly positive rate was 30.38% in Chhattisgarh, 24.24% in Goa, 24.17% in Maharashtra, 23.33% in Rajasthan, and 18.99% in Madhya Pradesh.

Of the newly registered positive cases, 78.56% cases were reported in just 10 states. Of the 1,501 people who died recently due to the virus, most were from Maharashtra and Delhi. Lucky 9 States / Union Territories have no new cases.

With cases surging high the oxygen is in high demand.

The Union Health Ministry on Sunday announced plans to set up 162 Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) plants at public health centers across the country.

 Hospitals can produce the oxygen they need on their own with the help of these plants. Thereby reducing the load on the national grid that supplies oxygen.

The process of setting up 33 PSA plants has already started. 5 in Madhya Pradesh, 4 in Himachal Pradesh, 3 in Chandigarh, 3 in Gujarat, 3 in Uttarakhand, 2 in Bihar, 2 in Karnataka, and two in Telangana.

 Also, in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. The country aims to have another 55 PSA plants by the end of April and another 80 by the end of May. The Center will bear the burden of Rs 201.58 crore for setting up 162 PSA plants.

On the other side, the vaccination drive is only a complete swing over 12 crore vaccine doses have been given in just 92 days. People are becoming more and more conscious about the situation and are willingly getting vaccinated.

So far 12,26,22,590 vaccine doses have been delivered to the eligible in 18,15,325 sessions across the country. Of the total doses, 59.5 per cent were administered in eight states. Doses were administered at a rate of over Rs. 1,03,37,448 in Gujarat, 1,21,39,453 in Maharashtra, 1,06,98,771 in Rajasthan and 1,07,12,739 in Uttar Pradesh.
