In order to achieve net carbon neutrality, Nitin Gadkari (Minister of Road Transport and Highways) stressed the importance of unity and a focused approach to achieve Carbon neutrality by 2070. Nitin Gadkari stated that we must adhere to the commitment made by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the recently held COP-26 Glasgow summit.
While addressing at the ICC’s AGM & Annual Session on India’s 75 ” Empowering India: Tomorrow for Tomorrow ”, the Minister highlighted the need for the country’s sustainable development with state-of-the-art technologies, innovative ideas & digital platforms. During his address, he underlined the capacity of Atmanirbhar Bharat on tackling climate change.

The Minister mentioned the importance of tree plantation along national highways that comes under the Green Highway Mission. While speaking about public-private partnership. The Minister emphasized the importance of private investments in the building of world-class infrastructure such as smart cities, industrial parks, special economic zones, ports, logistics parks & corridors.
The Minister briefed about the construction of 65,000 km of national highways were being constructed under Bharatmala Phase 1 and 2 along with future plans to develop about 35,000 km of highways under Bharatmala Phase-1, total capital expenditure of nearly 10 lakh crore.
Nitin Gadkari also said that the government currently is committed to developing 2 lakh km of national highway network by 2025. While speaking about the EV sector Gadkari added that India is one of the largest market for EV sector vehicles including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and cars wherein the development of low-cost indigenous battery technology startups are already outperforming the traditional automakers.
