The United Nations says most of al Qaeda’s top leaders are based in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Aiman al-Zawahiri, the leader of the group, whose whereabouts have not been found, was thought to be dead, but now it has come to light that he is alive and well.

The Twelfth Report of the UN’s Analytical Support and the member countries of the Sanctions Monitoring Group have stated that a significant part of the Al Qaeda leadership is in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border region.

The terrorist group, which includes citizens of Central and South Asian countries, said in the report that Al Qaeda terrorists under the backing of the Taliban are active in the Kandahar, Helmand, and Nimruz provinces of Afghanistan and in the Indian subcontinent. These include terrorists of the IS-Khorasan faction.

A report by the UN watchdog said that there is no sign of a breakdown of these deepening relations between the two. The two terrorist groups have been bonding and growing stronger, which might be a threat to the world.
