Leftist ideologue Gabriel Boric was sworn as Chile’s new president on Friday. In the wake of nationwide protests over economic inequalities in the country, Fresh hopes had raised with the arrival of 36-year-old Boric. Chile is an economically prosperous country, with a high level of inequality issues raised often.
It has been four years since the military dictatorship ruled the country. Boric added 14 women to his cabinet and called it his “feminist cabinet.” Another ten men took oaths as ministers. Gabriel Boric defeated Conservative Jas Antonia Castle by 56% of the vote in December last year. Unexpectedly he won his election with an overwhelming majority. Boric stood in the election with the promise of eliminating inequality and promoting humanity which found a place in the minds of people there.

A new chapter has begun in Chile, with constant protests. Gabriel Boric, a leader of the Left-wing and candidate of the Social Convergence Party, won a landslide victory in Sunday’s election. Gabriel Boric received 56 percent of the vote, while his rival, Jose Antonia Cast, received 44 percent. Boric’s victory was celebrated in the Chilean capital, Santiago. Thousands of people came onto the roads and shared their joy.

Gabriel Boric’s solid victory as president
Boric impressed the people with his eloquence and promises in the election campaign. He took his commitment to civil rights to the people firmly. On the other hand, the opponent cast made comments on women’s issues and same-sex marriages, which provoked strong opposition. These factors also made it easier for Boric to win. Boric was able to win the hearts and votes of the people with promises such as reducing working hours from 45 to 40 hours per week, pensions, solving health problems, reducing inequalities, and increasing green investment. The Chilean people are hopeful that the victory of Boric will bring positive changes to the country.
Boric was born in February 1986 in Magallanes, Southern Chile. Grew up as a student leader, he was elected President of the Student Union while studying Law at the University of Chile. He supported the collective agitation against inequality and corruption in the country in 2019-2020. Economic inequalities in Chile, have grown exponentially over the years. With the increase in metro, bus, and fuel charges, the people there are protesting against the government’s rule. The victory of Boric marked the beginning of a new chapter in Chile.
